Our Project

Our project aims to help patients who are suffering from cardiovascular issues and are worried about putting too much stress on their heart whilst going through their daily activities. We have created a device that tells the patient whether their heart rate is too high or low. This is done by the activation of a green or red LED. Green tells the patient that their heart rate is stable whilst red tells them that their heart rate is too low or high. Inside the device is an SD card which holds the ECG data throughout the whole day. Patients with cardiovascular issues may be given a fitness schedule to follow by their local GP; using this device, the doctor can look at the ECG data for when the patient is performing the exercises they were prescribed and find out if any of them were too demanding. It allows the doctor to tailor the workouts exactly to the patient’s needs. When the patient visits the doctor, the doctor can connect the SD card to their PC and view the patient’s heart rate data from the previous week. The doctor can copy this data onto their local machine allowing the patient to free up space on the SD card which can then be used to store their heart rate data the following week before they come back for their weekly appointment.

The global challenge our product aims to solve is related to health and well-being. This device helps patients with cardiovascular issues monitor their heart rate throughout the day. This helps them focus and be aware of their current health and in terms of their well-being, it creates less anxiety for them when wearing our device. As it alerts the patient to whether any activity they are doing is too demanding, they have less to worry about as they carry on with their daily routines creating less mental stress on the individual.
